MAKE AN IMPACT THAT GOES BEYOND THE BALANCE SHEET

Marshalls Energy Company, Inc. (MEC) powers the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and we’re looking for a strategic, technically excellent, and genuinely hands-on Chief Financial Officer to help shape the company’s financial future.

This is more than a finance leadership title. MEC’s CFO works directly with the Board of Directors, CEO and senior management to strengthen financial performance, guide strategic decisions, and personally ensure that MEC’s books, reports, and compliance obligations to our government and international donor partners are accurate and complete.

If you are a finance leader who is just as comfortable closing the books yourself as you are presenting to the Board, and you want your expertise to make a real difference for an entire nation, this could be your next opportunity.

WHY JOIN MEC?

  • NATIONAL IMPACT β€” Be part of an organization at the heart of the Marshall Islands’ energy infrastructure.
  • STRATEGIC INFLUENCE β€” Your financial analysis, recommendations, and insights will directly shape major business decisions.
  • LEADERSHIP ACCESS β€” Work closely with the CEO, department heads, the Board, government agencies, independent auditors, and international financial institutions including the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
  • A ROLE BUILT FOR DOERS β€” This is a hands-on position for someone who wants to personally lead financial excellence, not just supervise it.
  • MEANINGFUL BENEFITS PACKAGE β€” Beyond base salary, MEC provides employer-paid housing, utilities, health coverage, group life insurance, retirement matching, home leave airfare, and more (details below).

YOUR ROLE

As Chief Financial Officer, you will provide strategic and hands-on operational leadership across MEC’s finance and accounting functions.

FINANCIAL LEADERSHIP & COMPLIANCE

  • Personally lead the preparation of MEC’s monthly and quarterly financial statements, management reports, budgets, and reports to the Board and government agencies, in full compliance with US GAAP.
  • Oversee cash flow, treasury activities, and internal controls, and coordinate directly with independent auditors to keep MEC’s books audit-ready year-round.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all financial reporting obligations to the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, US Compact Infrastructure funds, and other development partners.

STRATEGY & TARIFF ANALYSIS

  • Maintain MEC’s cost-of-service model and support the tariff review process, including analysis of the financial impact of the ongoing transition to renewable generation.
  • Partner with the CEO and department Directors on financial planning, capital investment analysis, and long-term business strategy.

PEOPLE & CAPACITY BUILDING

  • Lead, coach, and personally mentor Finance Department staff, building technical capability across the team.
  • Support workforce planning and succession planning for the Finance function.

WHAT YOU BRING

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 7 years of senior-level finance or accounting experience, with demonstrated hands-on experience personally preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations, and closing books β€” not solely reviewing the work of others.
  • A recognized professional accounting certification (CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • Strong, demonstrable working knowledge of US GAAP. Candidates with primarily IFRS or other non-US accounting backgrounds should be prepared to show their ability to apply US GAAP in practice.
  • Experience in strategic planning, utility or tariff regulation, and budgeting and forecasting.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in financial and accounting software, not only reviewing outputs prepared by others.

WHAT SETS THE RIGHT CANDIDATE APART

  • You can explain, in detail, the figures behind any report you present β€” nothing goes to the Board or CEO that you can’t personally defend.
  • You bring your own professional judgment and approach to financial reporting rather than simply continuing what came before.
  • You turn complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations, and you build trust across departments.
  • You communicate confidently in written and spoken English and are comfortable presenting directly to the Board and international donor representatives.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

MEC offers a comprehensive total compensation package that goes well beyond the base salary. In addition to an annual base salary to be negotiated, MEC provides:

  • Employer-provided housing, with MEC covering water, sewage, and a set electricity allowance each month.
  • Employer-provided vehicle.
  • Free residential internet and a mobile service plan.
  • Group life insurance at no cost.
  • Annual home leave airfare, plus joining and repatriation travel.
  • Paid annual and sick leave under MEC’s leave policy.
  • Direct access to senior leadership and the opportunity to lead meaningful, nationally significant financial and organizational improvements.

Taken together, these benefits represent substantial additional β€” particularly for candidates relocating to Majuro, where employer-provided housing and utilities significantly reduce cost of living.

READY TO LEAD?

If you are a finance leader who wants your technical expertise to matter beyond the balance sheet β€” and you’re ready to personally lead, not just oversee β€” we want to hear from you.
