Majuro, Marshall Islands – Great news! The MEC Fuel Storage Tanks Refurbishment project, supported by the Marshalls Energy Company (MEC) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has reached an exciting milestone: Tank #3 is now back in operation!
This project has been in the works for over ten years, and last week we made significant progress by putting Tank #3 back online. This means that MEC now has a whopping 750,000 gallons of fuel storage available in the newly refurbished Tank #3.
Tank #3 has been completely overhauled and is as good as new! Thanks to the upgrades, it will only need minor maintenance for many years to come. Here’s what we’ve done to Tank #3:
- New Floor and Roof: We replaced the entire floor and roof to ensure safety and durability.
- Side Panels Replacement: We put in a brand new first row of side panels, and we also replaced some upper panels that were badly damaged by rust.
- Improved Fuel Delivery: A new suction line, positioned about three feet off the bottom of the tank, helps maintain the quality of the fuel as it’s delivered.
- New Access Stairway: We built a new stairway for easier access to the tank.
Meanwhile, work is still in progress on two other tanks, Tank #4 and Tank #7. We’re replacing their floors too, and we expect to complete these tanks by late 2024 or early 2025.
