The Marshalls Energy Company (MEC) would like to inform our valued customers that we are implementing a necessary adjustment to our electricity tariffs, increasing them by 3.3 cents per kWh for all customers starting August 1, 2024.
In January 2024, the President of RMI declared a State of Emergency in recognition of the significant challenges faced by MEC in ensuring a reliable power supply, primarily due to the state of our aging generators and facilities. The government acknowledged the MEC need for urgent support to address these challenges, including the acquisition of additional backup generators.
In response to this directive, MEC took proactive steps to secure six additional containerized generators to bolster our power generation capacity and enhance reliability. However, through operational cost monitoring, it was determined that an emergency tariff surcharge is required to cover the costs associated with renting and operating these generators during this critical period. As directed by Cabinet, this surcharge will apply to ALL MEC customers.
The new electricity rates, which will be in effect from August 1, 2024, are shown in the table below and on our website at www.mecrmi.com.
