Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands – During recent months, Majuro faced the challenge of power rationing due to insufficient working generators at MEC’s power plant facilities. However, this difficult time also brought out the incredible spirit of cooperation within our community. A number of companies that own a backup generator generously volunteered to power their facilities, alleviating some of the strain on the island’s overall electricity demand.
MEC takes this opportunity to extend its deepest gratitude to these businesses for their selfless contribution and unwavering support during this challenging time. Their commitment to the well-being of the community not only helped mitigate the impact of power interruptions but also demonstrated the spirit of unity that defines our island.
A Symbol of Appreciation: Complimentary Generator Maintenance
As a token of our deep appreciation for their support, MEC is pleased to offer these participating companies a one-time complimentary generator maintenance service. This service will include the replacement of fuel filters, oil filters, and water separators, along with an oil change. This service will ensure their backup generators remain in optimal condition, ready to provide reliable power when needed most.
MEC’s CEO, Jack Chong-Gum, expresses sincere appreciation: “We are profoundly thankful for the businesses that took the initiative during a time of widespread difficulty,” he said. “Their solidarity exemplifies the strength of our community. This token of one-time free generator service, although modest in comparison to their contribution, is an expression of our acknowledgment and a step to assist them in retaining operational readiness for the days ahead.”
Moving Forward Together
MEC remains steadfast in its commitment to providing dependable and efficient power to Majuro and the other islands where it operates a power plant. The recent deployment of six Aggreko rental generators in April underscores this commitment. These rental units will serve Majuro for the next two years, ensuring a stable electricity supply while Power Station 1 undergoes reconstruction, and new primary generators are procured. Both of these projects are funded by grants from the World Bank.
The collaboration and support shown by MEC’s local partners in Majuro during the challenging times is a testament to the strength and resilience of our island community. Together, we can build a brighter, sustainable future for Majuro.
