The Marshalls Energy Company (MEC) wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public that it is embarking on a significant milestone in our commitment to enhancing the reliability of electricity services on the island. Starting next month, we will initiate the demolition of the aging Power Plant Station 1 (PS1).
This crucial step represents a substantial leap forward in our mission to modernize the power infrastructure on Majuro. By removing the old power plant building, we will make way for the construction of a new and modern facility, equipped with cutting-edge technologies. This new plant will not only accommodate the arrival of brand-new generators scheduled for next year but will also provide ample space for additional generators to be procured and installed in the future. The new generators will be able to work with and control increased renewable energy from sources such as Solar, Wind generation and Battery Storage equipment, which cannot be done with the existing generators in PS1. This change will allow Majuro to transition to a greater level of Renewable Energy generation while maintaining emergency reserve capacity in the future.
During the demolition phase, the operation of PS1 will be suspended, leading to a reduction in our generation output. However, we want to reassure all our customers that we are diligently implementing measures to mitigate any impact on the island’s power supply. Our dedicated teams will be working tirelessly to optimize the operation of our second power plant station. Additionally, we will procure extra backup generators and collaborate closely with our valued business partners to compensate for the temporary decrease in generation capacity.
We fully understand that this may cause inconvenience to our customers. Nevertheless, this work is indispensable for the long-term enhancement of Majuro’s electricity infrastructure. We remain committed to delivering a more efficient and reliable power supply, while also embracing a greener, more sustainable energy future.
MEC appreciates the patience, cooperation and continued support of all its customers during this transition period.
