The MARSHALLS ENERGY COMPANY, Inc, (MEC) currently has six thermal generation facilities located within the Marshall Islands with its major plants located on Majuro Atoll. This position is based in Majuro Atoll and relates to our two primary power plants with a combined output of 25MW. The facilties are undergoing rehabilitation and current works involve replacing most of the existing capacity with three new CAT 3500 and five 3600 series diesel generation equipment, with full RE capable control systems. MEC operates generators ranging from 6.4MW down to 15 kW in various shore based facilities and also operates a 6,000,000 gal capacity fuel storage farm along with a 52m long, 400T, 150,000 gal Landing Craft Tanker vessel servicing our remote outer island facilities.

JOB SUMMARY:

Marshalls Energy Company is in search of a Senior Specialist Welder for our Marshall Islands Power Plants and Operations. This position will be responsible for welding maintenance and repair of service equipment and facility items as described in the scope of work reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor and Generation Manager. With minimal supervision and significant autonomy, the typical areas of responsibility include safely performing planned & unplanned maintenance, general maintaining, and providing first-line support for equipment troubleshooting. The ideal candidates will adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position. They will also rely on experience and judgement to plan and achieve assigned tasks and goals.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Must have expertise with MIG, TIG, Stick, Gas welding in all positions with a wide variety of materials, from mild steel, weathering steels, stainless steel, aluminium, irons, monel, bronze, brass, copper etc, in the form of pipes, tubes, plates, etc.
  • Experience with API, ANSI, AWS and other welding standards relating to Fuel storage facilities, Pipelines, Power Plants, Structral fabrication and Marine Vessels.
  • Machine shop practice – experienced operation of all machine shop equipment such as lathes, mills, saws, presses etc to perform maintenance duties.
  • Perform inspection, repair and/or replacement of equipment and components with minimum supervision and assistance as required for the completion of service tasks.
  • Identify and diagnose maintenance problems, determine, and perform corrective action including disassembly, repair, overhaul, re-assembly, checks, clean-up, and provide feedback for inventory records and engineering changes.
  • Must have the skills to set out and fabricate items from basic stock material items.
  • Identify and requisition materials, parts, supplies and equipment as necessary to perform the tasks required.
  • Direct service technicians that are assigned to maintenance operations.
  • Assists in planning, estimating, and scheduling when requested.
  • Train and instruct employees in both direct and related skills.
  • Adhere to procedures and documentation as required to adequately record the maintenance work performed.
  • Fabricate, install, align and test mechanical systems and components.
  • Research and determine re-usability of parts in accordance with published manufacturer guidelines.
  • Coordinate the ordering of replacement parts and materials with supervisor.
  • Prepare and submit detailed, complete and legible service reports of all inspection and repairs performed using prescribed forms and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Keep supervisor regularly appraised of status of assigned repair jobs and assist in addressing customer questions and concerns.
  • Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times.
  • Keep up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical or trade school certification or higher in related course.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Power Plant Welder position, Fuel Storage Facility Welder, Shipyard Welding or a Field Welder position.
  • Must provide evidence of certification of various welding processes and techniques.
  • Solid professional communication/interface skills with customer field personnel, onsite vendors, and other employees.
  • Solid mechanical systems knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical equipment installations.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, detail oriented, and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding owner expectations.
  • Ability to be self-managed and work independently in a challanging service environment with little or no supervision.
  • High degree of mechanical ability and the ability to problem solve.
  • Experience reading and understanding technical manuals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend moderately difficult computer-based schematics, specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins, safety manuals, and other related publications.
  • Ability to safely use equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 12 and 15 hours in hot and confined spaces.
  • Ability to understand and apply company safety rules, permit, and tag systems.
  • Capable of safely driving commercial size truck, forklifts.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening and background check.
  • Must be able to pass a physical and PFT/FIT test.
  • Hold a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a passport and visa for international travel.
  • Have and maintain a current driver’s license and maintain a driving record (MVR) which adheres to the company’s motor vehicle policy standards.
