The MARSHALLS ENERGY COMPANY, Inc, (MEC) currently has six thermal generation facilities located within the Marshall Islands with its major plants located on Majuro Atoll and Ebeye Island. This position is based in Kwajalein Atoll, specifically on Ebeye Island. The facility on Ebeye Island utilizes four Cummins KTA50-G9 generating sets. The facilties are undergoing rehabilitation and current works involve upgrading the facility and distribution system. Operations also include the islands Water plants and Sewer plants along with the related pump stations and reticulation systems. A 600kW of Solar PV with battery storage and management controls is currently being installed with additional distributed systems to follow on the main island and other islands within the atoll.
JOB SUMMARY:
Marshalls Energy Company is in search of an Electrical Engineer for our Marshall Islands Power Plants, Distribution systems, and Water & Sewer systems. This position will be responsible for maintenance and service of generators & electrical powered systems and other operational equipment, reporting to the Operations Supervisor and General Manager. With minimal supervision and significant autonomy, the typical areas of responsibility include safely performing planned & unplanned maintenance, maintaining, and providing first-line support for equipment troubleshooting. The ideal candidates will adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position. They will also rely on experience and judgement to plan and achieve assigned tasks and goals.
Essential Functions for Power, Water & Sewer systems.
- Must have a full working experience with the Cummins Power Command Diagnostic & Servicing software.
- The power systems operates at 13,800 volts with a low voltage range from 120-480 volts at 60Hz.
- Perform inspection, repair and/or replacement of equipment and components with minimum supervision as required for the completion of service contracts.
- Use and analysis of power analyzer and data logging meters is required
- Identify and diagnose maintenance problems, determine, and perform corrective action including disassembly, repair, overhaul, re-assembly, check-out, clean-up, and provide feedback for inventory records and engineering changes.
- Must have operational experience with Master control and Supervisory control panels.
- Identify and requisition materials, parts, supplies and equipment as necessary to perform the contract.
- Assist supervisor with directing service technicians that are assigned to the project.
- Provide guidance to crew in handling problems and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
- Accurately gather and prepare data/measurements for reports critical to system operations.
- Accurately identify and assist supervisors with solving the problem.
- Assist in planning, estimating, and scheduling when requested.
- Train and instruct employees in job duties, skills and company policies.
- Adhere to procedures and documentation as required to adequately record the work and critical engine parameters as determined during project completion.
- Troubleshooting and general electrical problems – diagnose source of trouble where one or more systems are involved to correct improper performance of equipment; select and use proper maintenance procedures; adjust, align, balance, repair, overhaul, rebuild, test, inspect all equipment.
- Capable of working on generators, Reverse Osmosis systems, Heat Recovery Units, heat exchangers, pumps, fan compressors, blowers, controls, fuel oil systems.
- Troubleshoot, and identify the problem through failure analysis.
- Test, measure, align and adjust systems and components.
- Research and determine re-usability of parts in accordance with published manufacturer guidelines.
- Coordinate the ordering of replacement parts with supervisor.
- Prepare and submit detailed, complete and legible service reports of all inspection and repairs performed using prescribed forms and procedures in a timely manner.
- Keep supervisor regularly appraised of status of assigned repair jobs and assist in addressing customer questions and concerns.
- Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times.
- Keep up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Technical or trade school certification, diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years’ industrial electrical experience in a Power Plant Electrical position or a Field Electrical position.
- Solid working knowledge of CUMMINS KTA50-G9 diesel generating sets and auxiliary systems
- Experience or certifications primarily with Stamford alternators.
- Experience or certifications with electric powered Reverse Osmosis water systems
- Solid professional communication/interface skills with customer field personnel, onsite vendors, and other employees.
- Solid electrical systems knowledge of generators, pumps, PLC systems, general equipment failures and solutions.
- Proficient in the use of electrical test equipment.
- Excellent problem solving skills, detail oriented, and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
- Good computer skills using related information system applications (ex: SIS, DBS).
- Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding owner expectations.
- Ability to be self-managed and work independently in a challanging service environment with little or no supervision.
- Ability to use and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience reading and understanding technical manuals.
- Ability to read and comprehend moderately difficult computer-based schematics, specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins, safety manuals, and other related publications.
- Ability to safely use equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 12 and 15 hours in hot and confined spaces.
- Ability to understand and apply company safety rules, permit, and tag systems.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening and background check.
- Must be able to pass a physical and PFT/FIT test.
- Hold a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license
- Be able to obtain and maintain a passport and visa for international travel.
- Have and maintain a current driver’s license and maintain a driving record (MVR) which adheres to the company’s motor vehicle policy standards.
