Energy-Saving Tips
Welcome to our Energy Saving Tips page!
At Marshalls Energy Company (MEC), we are committed to helping our customers be more energy-efficient and reduce their carbon footprint. By implementing simple changes in your daily habits and making smart choices, you can not only save money but also contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
Here are some valuable energy-saving tips:
- Upgrade to LED Lighting: Replace traditional incandescent light bulbs with more energy-efficient LED bulbs. LEDs use significantly less electricity and have a longer lifespan, helping you save on energy bills while reducing the carbon emissions associated with electricity generation.
- Adjust Temperature Settings on Air Conditioners: Set your temperature value to between 74-80 degrees F (23-26 degrees C) and clean the pull filters regularly. These settings and tasks will have a noticeable impact on your energy consumption and cooling costs.
- Upgrade to Energy Star Appliances: When it’s time to replace appliances, choose those with the Energy Star label for optimal energy efficiency.
- Unplug Electronics: Many appliances and devices continue to draw power even when they are turned off. Unplug chargers, gaming consoles, and other electronics when not in use, or use power strips with an on/off switch to easily disconnect multiple devices at once.
- Weatherproof Your Home: Proper roofing and wall insulation, weatherstripping, and sealing all holes and spaces around pipes, cables etc. can prevent drafts and reduce energy waste. This will keep your home comfortable while cutting down on cooling costs.
- Optimize Appliance Usage: Use your appliances wisely to conserve energy. Do full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine and use cold water settings whenever possible. When cooking, match pot sizes to the Stovetop element size and consider using pot lids to reduce cooking time and energy usage.
- Maximize Natural Light: During daylight hours, open curtains, shades and blinds to allow sunlight into your home or office. Maximizing natural light will reduce the need for artificial lighting, cutting down on electricity usage.
- Use Energy-Efficient Power Strips: Energy-efficient power strips can help reduce standby power consumption by cutting off electricity to devices when they are not in use. Look for power strips with built-in timers or motion sensors.
- Plant Trees and Shade Structures: Strategically planting trees and using shade structures like pergolas or roof extensions can help reduce the heat absorption of your home, office building, or outdoor spaces. This can lower the need for excessive air conditioning and reduce energy consumption. But do not plant tall growing trees under or close to overhead power lines.
- Regular Maintenance: Keep all AC systems running efficiently by scheduling regular maintenance. Clean or replace filters as recommended.
- Use Fans Wisely: Ceiling fans help distribute air, making your home feel cooler, they can be used at the same time as air conditioners allowing you to adjust your AC temperature setting to a higher value.
- Family Engagement: Teach your family members about the importance of energy conservation and involve them in adopting energy-saving habits.
Remember, small changes can make a big difference when it comes to energy conservation. By following these energy-saving tips, you can actively contribute to a more sustainable future while enjoying the benefits of reduced energy costs.
