PURPOSE:

Responsible to the Master for:

  • The safe and efficient operation of all machinery aboard the vessel.
  • Ensuring the planned maintenance system of the company is carried out 

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Responsible to the Vessel Master for normal vessel engineering and maintenance matters, he is responsible for reporting directly to the Ship Master on items of all Vessel Machinery integrity.

DIMENSION, PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Responsible to the Master for:

  • The safe and efficient operation of all machinery aboard the vessel.
  • Ensuring the planned maintenance system of the company is carried out up to date.
  • Maintaining sufficient bunkers and other essential engine related stores and consumables.
  • Monitoring the consumption of fuel and lubricants. Personally, supervising the safe and efficient loading and transferring of bunkers.
  • Assisting the Company with the preparation of dry-docking specifications, and with the supervision of repairs and structural alterations.
  • The control of all engine plans, instruction manuals ensuring all are kept up to date.
  • The completion of the Oil Record Book (Part 1) as per the instructions contained in the book. Completion of the company’s maintenance forms and forwarding to the Office as per procedures.
  • The daily inspection of the machinery on-board. The Chief Engineer is to sign the Engine room. Log Book daily to show that the inspections have been undertaken.
  • The testing of all emergency stand-by machinery and recording such tests in the E.R. Log Book.
  • Ensuring all statutory / classification society certificates & surveys are kept up to date.
  • Responsible at all times of all vessel personnel training and certifications to their responsible roles.
  • Ensure all RO units are working and clean water is available to ensure vessel complies with meeting WHO each person demand for water daily.
  • Competent with fuel and oil handling procedures and safety standards are met including marine pollution procedures.
  • Ensuring all fuel tanks, dispensing pumps, hoses and reels, pipelines (both inlet and outlet) and fittings are always operational.

 

DECISION MAKING:

Determine the right action to take with people, asset, environment and MEC and vessel reputation always.

Determine the right action to take to stop people, use of asset and to follow safety procedures

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Preferably a minimum Class 3 Engineer -Watcher Keeper Level
  • Experience in the RMI or of the Pacific Islands domestic and Ocean-going trade
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in vessel engineering, maintenance, and safety. Advance Firefighting, First Aid, and OHS
  • Proven Track Record and Proficiency at Sea
  • Training /Coaching of staff
  • Certified in Ships Asset Management System
  • Certified or experience in fuel handling
  • Experience in handling fuel and product Quality procedures
  • Be able to respond to any emergency related to vessel operations, fuel safety and cargo operations.
