Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands – Marshalls Energy Company (MEC) is pleased to announce the successful installation and commissioning of six additional backup generators in Majuro. This achievement marks a significant milestone in bolstering the island’s power stability, effectively addressing past fluctuations in electricity provision.
Following the State of Emergency Declaration by President Hilda C. Heine in January 2024, MEC has swiftly actioned critical infrastructural upgrades, including the procurement and implementation of these rental generators from Aggreko. Our partnership has led to an expedited installation process by their skilled technicians, ensuring the generators were operational as projected by early April 2024.
These generators are essential to our broader strategy aimed at enhancing MEC’s power generation capabilities. At the same time, we are undertaking significant maintenance on our existing Deutz engines and reconstructing the PS1 facility. This proactive approach prepares for the arrival of new prime generator sets scheduled for early next calendar year.
Residents and businesses in Majuro can now enjoy more reliable power, as these additional rental units will be servicing the island for the next two years. This interim solution ensures that, while our primary engines undergo essential overhauls, Majuro’s energy demand will be met, including the additional demand expected during the upcoming MicroGames.
MEC extends heartfelt appreciation to the diligent teams involved, including Aggreko, Majuro Stevedore Company, Pacific International Inc., contractors, and our dedicated personnel. Their tireless efforts have ensured the realization of this achievement within the anticipated timeframe. We also express gratitude for the patience and support of the community during these challenging times.
Continued progress on MEC’s comprehensive approach to meeting the mandates of the executive order includes the installation of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, increasing our technical and engineering expertise, boosting the generator output capacity, procuring a Digital Protection System for the distribution network, and more. These initiatives promise to further modernize Marshalls Energy Company’s capabilities, ensuring a resilient and sustainable energy future for our island.
